vegetarian #101

By being a vegetarian you are not only helping your body but you also help the environment by reducing pollution created from animal agriculture. Also, you may appreciate your healthy meals even more knowing that no animals suffered along the way.

There are literally hundreds of great reasons to green with your diet but here are our: top 10.

TOP #10 Reasons to go VEGETARIAN:

1. Live Longer
A study from the Loma Linda University has found that vegetarians live about seven years longer, and vegans live about 15 years longer than meat eaters. These studies are further supported by the Chinese Health Project (the largest population study on diet and health to date). They found Chinese people who eat the least amount of fat and animal products have the lowest risk of cancer, heart attack and other diseases.

Further proof comes from a British research that tracked 6,000 and 5,000 meat eaters for 12 years to find that vegetarians were 40 percent less likely to die from cancer during that time and 20 percent less likely to die from other diseases.

2. You’ll be more “regular.”
Vegetables are the ultimate source for fiber, which pushes waste and bile out of the body. Meat contains no fiber. Studies done at Harvard and Brigham Women’s Hospital found that people who ate a high-fiber diet had a 42 percent lower risk of diverticulitis. People who eat vegetable rich diets also tend to have fewer incidences of constipation, hemorrhoids and spastic colon.

3. Have a good heart
Fruits and vegetables are full of antioxidant nutrients that protect the heart and its arteries. Plus, produce contains no saturated fat or cholesterol.
Cholesterol levels for vegetarians are 14 percent lower than meat eaters. American diet that’s filled with saturated fats and cholestrol from meat and dairy has made cardiovascular disease the number one killer in the United States.

4. You’ll avoid toxic chemicals.
95 percent of pesticide residue in our diet comes from meat, fish and dairy products (according to EPA estimates). Fish, in particular, contain carcinogens (PCBs, DDT) and heavy metals (mercury, arsenic; lead, cadmium) that cannot be removed through cooking or freezing. Meat and dairy products are also laced with steroids and hormones.

5. You’ll give your body a spring cleaning.
Fruit and vegetable juices contain phytochemicals that help us detox naturally.
Giving up meat helps rid the body of toxins (environmental pollutants, pesticides, preservatives) that overload our systems and cause illness.

6. You Will Look Better, Leaner, And Healthy
On average, vegetarians are leaner than meat eaters.
Vegetarian diets are much lower in calories than the standard American diet.
Vegetarians are also less likely to suffer from weight-related disorders like heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

7. Think of The Money You Will Save
Replacing meat, chicken and fish with vegetables and fruits is estimated to cut food bills by an average of $4,000 a year.

8. Help the environment
You’ll help reduce waste and air pollution. Circle 4 Farms in Milford, Utah, which raises 2.5 million pigs every year, creates more waste than the entire city of Los Angeles. And this is just one farm. Each year, the nation’s factory farms, collectively produce 2 billion tons of manure, a substance that’s rated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the country’s top 10 pollutants. And that’s not even counting the methane gas released by cows, pigs and poultry (which contributes to the greenhouse effect); the ammonia gases from urine; poison gases that emanate from manure lagoons; toxic chemicals from pesticides; and exhaust from farm equipment used to raise feed for animals.

9. More Efficient
Right now, 72 percent of all grain produced in the United States is fed to animals raised for slaughter. It takes 15 pounds of feed to get one pound of meat. But if the grain used to feed animals to be slaughtered were given directly to people, there’d be enough food to feed the entire planet. In addition, using land for animal agriculture is inefficient in terms of maximizing food production. According to the journal Soil and Water, one acre of land could produce 50,000 pounds of tomatoes, 40,000 pounds of potatoes, 30,000 pounds of carrots or just 250 pounds of beef.

10. Its The Right Thing To Do

“Our task must be to free ourselves… by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty. Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival for life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.”-

Albert Einstein

Consuming more fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains are the best source for living a healthy, more enjoyable life.

In addition former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop has said bad eating habits are the main cause of 70 percent American deaths.

Did you know 22 million animals are slaughtered to support the American appetite for meat?
It’s a great feeling to finish a health meal knowing that no beings have suffered!

In relationships~
are you the one trying to “change” the boyfriend/girlfriend?

Or do you accept that “they” are just a mirror of who YOU are being?

Do you try and get your job just the way you want it?
Do you try and control the people you work with in order to “manage” them?

Berkerlium asked me about my attraction
to the art of my current chosen profession.
So, I will share this with you, too.

My table-side thoughts go to:

“Don’t try and “control” the poker table…. that would be impossible…”~ “instead, realize that the entire felt~side experience is just a reflection of who you are being while you sit there.”

Don’t try and “control” what you eat~
either, for that matter.

alkalizing greens

Alkalizing Green Foods -

Nature’s Answer for Proper pH Balance:
Green foods are some of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Unfortunately, most people don’t eat enough servings of fresh greens, much less take the time to juice them.

Alkalizing Greens infuse your body with easily absorbed vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fiber, chlorophyll, enzymes, phytonutrients, and alkaline minerals that help to neutralize acids in the blood and tissues.

Green grasses are some of the most alkalizing foods on the planet.

Greens are also very rich in chlorophyll, which is often called “The Blood” of plants.
The molecular structure of chlorophyll is the same as human blood with the exception of the center atom, which is magnesium rather than iron. Your body has the ability to convert the center atom of chlorophyll with iron to form and build the blood. Chlorophyll helps the blood cells deliver oxygen throughout the body.

Raw Greens are also a plentiful source of the enzymes that are needed for just about every chemical activity in your body.

A product I now use is: pHion Green:
pHion Green has four times the power of ordinary greens. Many green food supplements are made only from dehydrated whole leaf powder. pHion is made from juice powder!
Because it is so concentrated, pHion Green immediately goes to work eliminating acid wastes from the body.

Take a serving of pHion Green with a liter of water infused with pH Booster™, and you have a nutrient-dense, alkalizing and energizing drink!

Chlorophyll: The Secret Power Behind Green Foods
All of the alkalizing greens in pHion Green get their color from chlorophyll — the same pigment that makes vegetables like spinach and kale dark green.

Many alternative practitioners recommend chlorophyll for building the blood~
which in turn increases energy!
Why? Because its chemical structure is almost identical to that of blood.
The only difference is that the center atom of blood is iron, while the center atom of chlorophyll is magnesium.

Chlorophyll also has a reputation for detoxifying the blood and liver.
Initial research validates this usage: Several studies have shown that chlorophyll inhibits abnormal cellular changes caused by toxic agents.

ALKALIZING GREENS

SuperFood
by: Odwalla

Are you a health-oriented person who cares about what goes into their body?

Odwalla Superfood is a micronutrient fruit juice drink and much more. This drink is a mixture of apple juice and purees of peach, strawberry and mango.
Banana is also blended in for its nutrients and flavor.

Superfood contain: green foods.
Wheat grass, which is super for your colon and bowel health.
Barley grass and wheat sprouts add their healthy nutrients to the drink.

Superfood contains 1,000 mg of spirulina per eight ounce serving.
With this you get good amounts of micro-nutrients such as: beta carotene, vitamin C, iodine and manganese as well as potassium.

Superfood is a great meal.
An eight ounce glass has just one hundred and thirty / 130calories,
and none of it from sugar, fat, salt or fillers.

At first sight Superfood looks very green, green and thick… but from the first taste it is a sweet, fruity, satisfying drink that keeps your hunger under control as well as giving you full servings of fruit and greens.

Wheat grass has always been considered health-food.
Many juice stores sell shots of it for $3.00 or more.
Wheat grass is excellent for health. When our bowels become full it can become uncomfortable and give you nausea and a bloated feeling. While not a pretty subject, your bowels are vital organs. Feces that sits in the intestines can grow rancid and unhealthy.

With Superfood you don’t taste the greens - it isn’t like grazing in a pasture!
The sweetness of the juice overrides the grassy flavors.

Odwalla puts out Superfood in eight ounce bottles. It also has sixty-four ounce jugs that are code dated for your protection. It is a food that is highly perishable and should be kept in the refrigerator and never left on the counter.

In this hectic world of stress we all need to take care of ourselves better.
Try a bottle of Superfood for a snack, as lunch, or as one of your meal replacement.

Enjoy!

OverTraining / OverReaching

Overtraining syndrome frequently occurs in athletes who are training for competition or a specific event and train beyond the body’s ability to recover.
Athletes often exercise longer and harder so they can improve.

But… without adequate rest and recovery, these training regimens can backfire, and actually decrease performance.

Conditioning requires a balance between overload and recovery. Too much overload and/or too little recovery may result in both physical and psychology symptoms of overtraining syndrome.

Common warning signs of overtraining include:

Washed-out feeling, tired, drained, lack of energy
Mild leg soreness, general aches and pains
Pain in muscles and joints
Sudden drop in performance
Insomnia
Headaches
Decreased immunity (increased number of colds, and sore throats)
Decrease in training capacity / intensity
Moodiness and irritability
Depression
Loss of enthusiasm for the sport
Decreased appetite
Increased incidence of injuries.
A compulsive need to exercise

It’s hard to predict overtraining since everyone’s body is different.
It is important, however, to vary training through the year and schedule in significant rest time.

Treating Overtraining Syndrome:

If you suspect you are overtraining, the first thing to do is reduce or stop your exercise and allow a few days of rest. Drink plenty of fluids, and alter your diet if necessary. Crosstraining can help you discover if you are overworking certain muscles and also help you determine if you are just mentally fatigued.
note: A sports massage can help you recharge overused muscles.

Measuring Overtraining:
There are several ways you can objectively measure some signs of overtraining. One is by documenting your heart rates over time. Track your aerobic heart rate at a specific exercise intensities and speed throughout your training and write it down. If your pace starts to slow, your resting heart rate increases and you experience other symptoms, you may heading into overtraining syndrome.

You can also track your resting heart rate each morning.
Any marked increase from the norm may indicated that you aren’t fully recovered.
A training log that includes a note about how your feel each day can help you notice downward trends and decreased enthusiasm.
It is vitally important to listen to your body signals and rest when you feel tired.

While there are many proposed ways to objectively test for overtraining, the most accurate and sensitive measurements are psychological signs and symptoms and changes in an athlete’s mental state.

Decreased positive feelings for sports and increased negative feelings, such as: depression, anger, fatigue, and irritability often appear after a few days of intensive overtraining.
Studies have found increased ratings of perceived exertion during exercise after only three days of overload.

Research on overtraining syndrome shows rest is the primary treatment plan.
Some new evidence indicating that low levels of exercise [active recovery] during the rest period will speed recovery.
Moderate exercise [gentle yoga; stretching; foam roller] has also been shown to increase immunity.

Total recovery can take several weeks and includes proper nutrition and stress reduction.

The subjective assessments, and mental state of an athlete is clearly the most reliable indicator of overtraining. Unfortunately, most athletes ignore these signs or wait too long before doing something. An important component of exercise is to objectively measure your training and modify it before damage is done.

proper supplementation

Clients ask as a Personal Trainer what SUPPLEMENTS I take to complete and compliment my daily consumption of calories:

The KEY, of course, is to get the majority of your calories and nutrients (Macro and Micro) from ORGANIC HIGH WATER CONTENT FOOD~

It’s necessary to get everything that the body needs into the body on a daily basis in a way the body can recognize and assimilate effectively.

I usually get down to just the following:

SUPPLEMENTS
#1) APEX Performance Multi-Vitamin / for “Athletes” above #189 who do “intense” bursts of exercise it is a 3@day dosage.
#2) APEX Anti-Oxidant / [fights free-radicals] 1 per day @ Noon
#3) APEX BCAA’s / Branch Chain Amino Acids for RECOVERY - designed to maintain lean Muscle Mass and alleviate excessive Muscle “soreness” / 1 per every #30’s of Lean Muscle Mass prior to work out [6@day]
#4) APEX Omega-3 Concentrated Fish Oil (to assist balance blood/fat levels)

… And while seeking to LEAN OUT~ as far as Thermogenics:
APEX Pyruvate* is a Calorie Burner for accelerated fat loss without Caffeine or Stimulants
*Special Recognition during FAT BURN phase

Do not believe “hype” and look for pharmaceutical grade {vs. feed grade} supplementation.

Vitamins and Supplements with “big name celebrity endorsers” or multi-million dollar ad campaigns? *beware*

What makes Apex supplements different from others?
We sell programs, not products. Our supplements are designed to complement each other based on individual diets and goals, preventing excessive intakes and conserving finances. Our formulas are produced by a pharmaceutically licensed manufacturer incorporating drug GMPs (good manufacturing practices) and available USP validation methods. Our products use of sophisticated delivery systems to release nutrients in the right place and at the right time.

If Apex supplements are so good, why haven’t I heard of them before?
Apex designs complete fitness programs. Supplementation is an important part of this goal, so we have formulas manufactured for use in a complete program.
We believe that proper supplement use should be based upon a person’s education, food, exercise and goal. Because of this, we do not sell our products at health food stores, grocery stores or through discount warehouses. These locations are for consumers who buy from advertisements, not education.

Our formulas are only available at facilities that utilize our systems, support materials and have a staff educated on the proper use of our compounds. Because of this, there is virtually no indiscriminant use of our supplements.

Do your research and make wise decisions.

Hot tub / Hydrotherapy

Health Benefits of Hot Tubs
Hydrotherapy, or warm water therapy in hot tub spas, consists of three main healing ingredients:
heat, buoyancy, and massage.
Together, they create an experience that is both relaxing and healthy.
Hot tub hydrotherapy on a regular basis provides physical health benefits that go much deeper than just relaxation and pleasure. Water is so pure and simple, yet it can do the most amazing things. Whether you are experiencing joint or muscle pain, having trouble sleeping, or are just plain stressed out, spending time in hot tub spas can provide therapeutic benefits for just about everyone.

Stress, headaches and sleep:
Warm water massage stimulates the body to release endorphins that reduce stress naturally. In addition to stress reduction, a hot tub’s hydrotherapy jets also dilate blood vessels to help prevent headaches. Also, when it comes to falling asleep faster and getting a good night’s sleep, the National Sleep Foundation clearly stated, “soaking in hot water, such as a hot tub or bath, before retiring to bed can ease the transition into a deeper sleep.”

Muscles and joints:
The Hydrotherapy use of hot tub spas by athletes has skyrocketed. Tennis Magazine said it best: “Your skin and muscles loosen and relax from the increased blood circulation” adding that, if muscles are injured: “A soak in a hot tub or whirlpool increases blood flow to the injured area, bringing nutrients to help repair the damage.”

Arthritis:
The Arthritis Foundation concluded that warm water Hydrotherapy
in a properly designed spa can help those with arthritis.
According to the Arthritis Foundation “Hydrotherapy is one method of using water to help treat arthritis. The soothing warmth and buoyancy of the water makes it a safe, ideal environment for relieving arthritis pain.

Diabetes:
Hot tub hydrotherapy in a spa can also help control diabetes, too. A Colorado study of diabetes patients who soaked in a spa 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week found the average blood sugar level of the group dropped 13%! It concluded that the use of a hot tub spas lowers blood pressure and blood sugar level.

Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy and more:
The muscle relaxing and joint loosening benefits of hot tubs help those with depression, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Tendonitis, Scoliosis and Bursitis. Hot tubs have even been known to provide significant help for those afflicted with diseases as serious as Multiple Sclerosis and Cerebral Palsy.

Overall, hydrotherapy studies have shown that the health benefits of immersion in warm water with massage jet action include the relaxation of muscles, lowering of blood pressure, loosening of arthritis joints, as well as help with the control of blood sugar and body weight.
